Nitto ATP Finals - A look at the history

Since 1970, the Nitto ATP Finals have been regarded as the crowning glory of the tennis year and an exclusive competition for the best eight players. Starting out as the Masters Grand Prix in Tokyo, the tournament quickly developed into a prestigious global event and moved on to cities such as Paris, Barcelona and Houston and even New York, where legends such as Björn Borg, John McEnroe and Ivan Lendl left their mark on entire generations. With the takeover by the ATP in the 1990s, Frankfurt and Hanover took center stage before the tournament - now known as the Tennis Masters Cup - took on a modern, international identity via Lisbon, Sydney and Shanghai.

In 2009, the event found its new home as the Nitto ATP Finals in London's O2 Arena, where Federer and Djokovic played a key role in shaping history. Turin has hosted the tournament since 2021, offering the world's elite the stage for the final highlight of each season at the Pala Alpitour. Whether Sampras, Federer or Djokovic - their performances continue to shape the significance of this unique season finale, which combines sporting excellence and global appeal like no other tennis tournament.
